Aristocraft Kitchens & Bedrooms

1940’s Renovation Project

This is a real customer kitchen installed by Aristocraft in 2019.

As a professional couple with a young family, the client specified from the beginning that they wanted a spacious and unique kitchen/ diner for the whole family to enjoy, as well as a large space they could use for entertaining friends.

The kitchen units are part of our bespoke Davies & Davies collection, painted in Farrow and Ball, Railings. Within the carcasses is contrasting oak and the drawer boxes are solid oak, adding warmth when the cupboards are opened. In order to further compliment the dark units, I incorporated a Quartz worktop in white and calacatta gold, lifting this onto one of the back walls, creating a bright, fresh feel to the room.

The little veins of gold throughout the Quartz also perfectly match the brass handles that are present throughout the room.

I chose a laminate oak parquet floor as the wood texture and colour give warmth to the dark kitchen. Bearing in mind that the client has two small children, the laminate parquet is easy to clean and maintain.

Having a busy lifestyle, I designed a hidden breakfast cupboard so that the children can help themselves to their breakfast in a morning, and the cupboard can be closed away easily so that the kitchen always looks tidy.

A large island with an integrated AEG combo hob is located in the centre of the kitchen with two stools along the back, creating a seating area for the children to enjoy their breakfast. This is also opposite the prep area so that the client can involve the children in the cooking process.

The island has a freestanding look enabling the client to see all the way underneath, creating more space by picking the island up off the floor.

Having specified from the beginning that the client enjoys cooking for both family and friends, I opted for the combo hob in the centre of the room so that the client can still enjoy being surrounded by friends and family whilst cooking without having a restricted view from the entertainment area, as well as being able to control the smell of the food cooking in the kitchen. The hob also has a ‘stop and go’ function to use for safety purposes for the young children.

The entertainment area is made up of an 8-seater dining table with brass legs and a concrete surface, adding another texture but keeping in with the grey vein in the work surface.

Next to the table is a sofa area with a TV and integrated fire, creating a cosy feel to the room and so the children can be with the client whilst she is cooking. I also changed the legs of the sofa to brass to keep in with the brass theme throughout the room. The wall is a black painted, brick wall, adding another texture and feel to the room.

Within the chimney breast, I incorporated a hidden drinks cabinet to keep the kitchen decluttered and to keep the alcoholic drinks out of reach of the children.

I also incorporated the wine cooler in this area. I ordered an extra oven handle for the wine cooler, replacing the current stainless-steel handle to remain consistent with the other black line range appliances throughout the client’s kitchen.

Being a young family of four who also enjoy cooking and hosting dinner parties, the client specified that they wanted to maximise storage space. To incorporate this, I added a decorative end to the island with a pastry bench and small drawers which the client can use to hide away smaller items.

The oak slats within the island carry the oak theme throughout out the kitchen which the client will use for her recipe books. This is within close proximity to the hob and ovens.

The island also has a large cupboard and a reduced depth cupboard in the back near the seating area for additional plates and best cutlery for dinner parties and special occasions.

The client specified that she needed as many drawers as possible as they are easier to access for the children. I incorporated two pull-outs either side of the sink for squash and tea towels, keeping these items close to the sink for easy access.

The sink also has a boiling water tap with a filter for cold drinking water for the children and filtered boiling water for a better taste. This is also beneficial to eliminate the need for a kettle and is more energy efficient.

I incorporated a shelf above the sink for fresh herbs. This is easily accessible to the prep area as the client likes to cook fresh food to keep the family healthy.

I used a the fully integrated comfort lift dishwasher for ease of use so that the client doesn’t have to keep bending down. The dishwasher also puts the time on the floor in lights. The dishwasher has a glass care programme, so the client isn’t afraid to put her best glasses in. The dishwasher is barely hearable, to almost silent when on so doesn’t disturb the family when they are in the kitchen.

The client has 2 Pyrolytic self-cleaning, multi-function ovens in the black line range due to the self-cleaning programme because of the client’s busy lifestyle. The meat probe also improves the taste of the meat as it doesn’t dry out. The client specified that she is a keen baker so the bread making and dough proving options are also beneficial.

I recommended the Long Fresh, soft close door integrated fridge due to the long fresh drawers as the client specified that she keeps a lot of fresh produce and felt the food was going off too quickly in her previous fridge. The soft close doors are consistent throughout the kitchen due to the small children. The freezer is also soft close and frost free.

As the client stated that she doesn’t use a microwave very often, I suggested a compact multi-function microwave oven as it adds an extra grill and small oven for when entertaining.

The client has corner bi-folding doors to optimise the natural light coming into the kitchen.
