AEG are delighted to announce Remy Blom from the Kitchen Studio, Netherlands as the first place prize winner of the inaugural AEG kitchen designers contest. 32 entries from designers in 6 countries across Europe submitted designs that provide a great kitchen experience for entertainers and guests. The theme, ‘sharpen your senses’ acknowledges the symbiotic relationship between design and functionality.
“Remy’s fabulous kitchen is a true mix of form and function wrapped up in a beautiful aesthetic with a twist” says Thomas Gardner, Senior Designer, Electrolux. ”With the kitchen so visible and directly accessible from the garage of the house, this is what qualifies as the ultimate drive-thru! The mix of materials and colour palette are elegant and accommodate smart, practical details such as robust drawer handles and integrated electrical sockets. Remy’s thought provoking response to the brief triggers the emotions and is very much in line with the AEG approach to kitchen innovation.”
Second place was awarded to a compact solution from Bulgaria. Whilst designed for a detached home, Oksana Harutyunyan’s design would be ideal as a stylish, pragmatic city living solution.
“This compact kitchen would be a great space for city entertaining says Sofia Andreasson, Trend & Analysis, Electrolux Group Design. “With the wine chiller and coffee machine on the right, given equal weight to the cooking solutions on the left and concealable sink space in the middle, it is a kitchen that can be called upon and shown as and when needed or blend in to the design of the home when not in use – this is a really smart use of space with a premium aesthetic.”
Third place was awarded to a design from DSM Keukens, Belgium. “This is a kitchen with great flow.” says Gardner.
“The five seats at the island place the cook at centre stage whilst guests can chat and socialise with drinks from the wine chiller before all descend to the dining table. The music system and open fire are clever elements in creating a specific feeling for the dining space. Last, but not least the art work on the wall really creates a personalised signature that shows the kitchen is a true area for enjoyment.”
The annual design contest from AEG is a forum for kitchen planners to add their own perspective on the use and enjoyment of kitchen appliances in the various phases of meal preparation. On offer to winners are great prizes, including AEG products and cooking experiences. The next contest will open before the summer of 2019.
The competition is open to professional kitchen planners and designers that have integrated AEG or will plan a kitchen with AEG appliances until the end of the year.
